Our House Was Alive While Sarah Lived

This is a fun photo from today’s Brookings Register, the newspaper in the town where our family resides. It shows Brookings as it appeared sometime during the 1890s. We were able to locate our house (see the red arrow), next to the steeple of the Episcopal Church.

This is confirmation of what we’d believed–that our house, or some part of it, was on this property in the 1890s.

Our house was therefore “alive” while Sarah Wakefield, the subject of my fictional biography (manuscript in progress), lived. There’s something rather nifty about that. Sarah died in 1899, in St. Paul, Minnesota.

PS: Don’t hold it against us that our newspaper got today’s date wrong.
