We Are a Sad & Angry People

Too much grief. Too much hate. The killing of Alton Sterling, the killing of Philando Castile, the police ambush in Dallas … these ongoing tragedies make clear that our nation is diseased. The disease has many names, but its main symptom is violence.

We the People must be the nation’s nurses and doctors, the wounded healers, the elders and wise ones.

We light candles for the dead, black and white. We light candles for the living. We light candles for our families and our neighbors, and for those who feel estranged. We light candles for the work that must be done, for the relations that must be righted. We light candles for Life.

A while back I composed a piece of music for digital guitar titled “Old Hatreds Shall Someday Pass.” I offer it today as a gentle prayer to the streets of our nation.
